A septic evaluation should match the actual system. The tank, absorption area, pumps or controls, visible drainage, household usage, and reserve area can all matter. For a well, testing water quality and evaluating visible components are different questions; one does not replace the other.

Future use matters. Adding bedrooms, building an outbuilding, installing a pool, or changing vehicle access can conflict with a well, septic field, or reserve area even when the existing system is functioning.

Verify performance, capacity, and future conflicts

For a well, locate the head, pressure equipment, treatment components, and available construction or service records.
